The Social Media Revolution

If any of you are wondering why I am into this experiment and why blogger, the following video will explain it best.  The social media has been integrated into the PR studies and during this recession, it's the one thing not suffering but continually growing.  This is opportunity.

Secret Formula of Coca-Cola

As a PR major, I have a great new respect for Coca-Cola.  Coke posted this video back in September but today is when they first advertised it on YouTube.

In this campaign they give you a variety of fun stuff.  You watch the video and every time the Coke logo appears in the upper right hand corner, click on it and it will take you to a variety of sites -- from following them on Twitter to watching the "live" feed of the Coke vault to brief activities and history.

In my opinion this campaign is brilliant, a new standard!  Check it out!

The Response

Seeing how I am new to blogging, I was searching for feed back from friends and family on Facebook to see what worked and what did not.  Spencer made a simple request, "write about ME, ME, and nothing but MEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"

I knew this was too easy so I took it one step further -- I made a video.

The Net's Caught Your Pocket

Was this a slap in the face for you or am I out of the loop?  I am not surprised by this move.  Ever since the Democrats had their face slapped several times over this past election they have been pushing unpopular regulations on this country and they will continue to do so until they are out of power.

The new FCC regulation of the internet, called “Net Neutrality,” is no different.  This is an illegal act that the FCC will be enforcing and they do not have the rights or the power to do so.  How was this given to them?  Please, give me the answer because nothing is making sense to me as how or why they are doing this.



(For Your Information - Congress never gave them the rights to do this but many Democrats in the House and Senate are giving the FCC the green light without having a proper vote or any kind of vote.)

The internet was the last democratic source the world had and now, it will be heavily regulated.

I know that they have been telling you that this new regulation is to control the broadband service providers, to create equal data rights for all people, and for them to cease blocking certain sites.  This is supposed to make the internet more open then it is already.


Fact, this is the first forced regulation upon the internet without the voice of the people.  Yes, I believe we can say goodbye to this freedom.  I am still getting facts about this but from what I have heard, this surprise regulation will do what the government has been doing best, destroying the small business and silencing the little guy.


How will this happen?  You know your cable or satellite providers and how they charge you for the “premium” channels like movie channels?  “Net Neutrality” will allow these internet providers to charge “premium” rates for certain sites, if you want to use them.


Do you want to use Facebook and connect to your family or friends?  Well, too many people use that so there’s a fee for that.  Do you want to watch videos on YouTube and listen to what others have to say?  Too many people watch that and use too much data -- yes, there is a fee for that one too.  What about your favorite blogging site or what you write about?  Wait, too many people have the freedom to write their own thoughts -- yes, there is a fee for that one too.


The internet service providers do not have to impose a fee but they will pass the costs on to you, the consumer, for what the FCC will be charging them.


Get the point?


This will destroy the freedom of speech more so then every before.  Any small business on the web, forget about it, you will fail.  Your site will be a “premium” site and only those who pay the price will get to shop - yes, you will see far less viewers.


Enjoy the internet while it lasts because you may be paying for every “free” word you want to say or for every page you want to visit.

Fox Response to Fringe Friday Night Move

In my previous post, "Fox Moves Fringe in Favor of Glee," I have addressed the issue that Friday nights is a death slot for anyshow.  The last successful show on Friday nights, that I can recall, was "The X-Files."  Seeing how Fringe is a resurrection of the popular show with a twist, can it survive the new Friday night line up or is Fox taking the popularity of this show to revive Friday nights?  It would be appropriate that I post Fox's response.

How To Make English Trifle - The Video

Sorry, everyone for not posting for the past few days.  I have been busy every night working on this video and I can reassure you that whenever I had free time, it was spent editing this video.  It may not seem much but I went through over 30 minutes of video footage only to come up with 3 minutes and 42 seconds worth, annoying my wife saying "look at this," and re-editing after a minor error.  The Suit is in full swing and here is the video on "How To Make Traditional English Trifle."

Feed Me

I have now been working on this experiment for almost a month and my reader response is incredible.  No, I have not written much and if you have read about "My Apple Platter," then you would understand the part as to why.  Now I have my computer back and before I post my video, I would like to receive some feed back.  I have already heard some comments but I would like to build off more.  What works?  What doesn't work?  Anything you would like to read about?  Should I stick with cooking or continue to write on a variety of topics?  Any other comments you would like to make?

Fox Moves Fringe in Favor of Glee

Fringe, the modern day X-Files, is on the move to Friday nights in it's mid-season premiere. Beginning January 21, 2011 from 9 to 10pm, the show will kick off the first episode entitled "Firefly."



If you have been a fan of Firefly (2002-2003) then you would understand the joke. As soon as they have been moved to a Friday night line-up, the plug was pulled. IT WAS CANCELED! Has it hit you yet? The only other time we heard of the show following the cancellation was the movie to conclude the series, Serenity.

Obviously, the creators of Fringe are trying to make the best of this but fans are expressing harsh disappointment in Fox and even threaten to boycott the network if they cancel this show:

"Not at all surprising. FOX either never pays attention to it's good shows or they don't care about the fan base or how well the show is doing. Moving the show to Friday is a death sentence." - Varoon Deo-Singh

"I wish I could say I was happy about it, but I'm not. I see the beginning of the end. Alas poor Fringe, we hardly knew ye." - Pierce Piper

"If you kill Fringe, I will absolut...ely NOT begin watching another new FOX show, you just have way too much of a history of killing quality television in favor of mindless dreck. If you had good sense, you would put Fringe after House...." - Blair Tarleton

Why is Fox making the move?  My prediction is that it is because of ratings... for Glee.  Because Glee has high ratings they are keeping their time slot therefore moving American Idol to Wednesday and Thursday and moving Fringe to Friday's.  If this is true then we know who Fox's target audience is and it begins with teen.

My Apple Platter

My intentions of my social experiment was to post a video of how to make trifle and to provide continuous blogs but both have come to a sudden stop. I am writing from my university because I lack my computer.

Over the past two years I have watched my computer have different misfortunes with the hardware. I only thought of them as minor and that I would worry about it later. Last week, my box fan tipped over on my 1st Generation MacBook Air making it completely flat. I was laughing and started to call it my Apple Platter.

I decided to call Apple because I had the 3 year extended warranty. I explained the damage that was done but they told me that they did not cover accidental damage but since I am having issues with the RAM, fan, processor, and battery it is covered so to send it in. They recommended that I drop the computer off at Simply Mac. They took my computer and told me they will have it back the following day.

After 3 days of waiting I called them and they finally confessed to me that because of the damage my computer's warranty was voided -- this is what Apple told them. I laughed and said that it still works and that the hardware was not damaged but had factory defaults. They still said that they refuse to repair it but offered me a "generous" discount of $709.00 to fix everything, which the average price was $1,500. **I can buy a new computer for less than that.** Well, tomorrow will be a week and I should have my computer back.

I have a question, if Apple said they can fix what was not broken then why did they have me turn it in and then refuse to repair it?

**Will post pictures soon, you may want to consider other computers if Apple will not honor extended warranties.**

How To Make Traditional English Trifle

To start off, you need a TRIFLE BOWL.  Now follow the instructions as listed and watch the video to see how it's done.

Layer 1

1. Line the bottom layer with pound cake and mixed fruit
2. In a saucepan, drain the juice from the can of mixed fruit into a measuring cup then add water to make 2 cups total.
3. Bring juice and water mix to a boil
4. Remove from heat and whisk in raspberry jell-o till dissolved and add a cup of cold water.
5. Fill the bottom layer of the bowl with the hot gelatin and place it in the fridge until it’s solid.

Layer 2

1. Add a layer of sliced bananas on top of gelatin.
2. In a saucepan stir Jell-O Cook & Serve Pudding mix in 3 cups of Half & Half, bring to a boil on medium heat until boiled, allow it to cool for 5 minutes, and place in bowl.
3. Add a layer of sliced bananas on top of pudding.

Layer 3

1. Drain pineapple juice from the can into a measuring cup then add water to make 2 cups total
2. Bring pineapple and water mix to a boil
3. Remove from heat and whisk in Lime Jell-O till dissolved and add a cup of cold water.
4. Add pineapple chunks to the top layer, poor in hot gelatin, and place in fridge until it’s solid.

Top Layer

1. Take 1 Pint of Heavy Whipping Cream into a mixing bowl
2. Add 3 teaspoons of sugar
3. Mix until thick
4. Add to top of trifle
5. You may add red cherries, chopped nuts, coconut, or anything else you can think of.

Disaster in the Making - Trials of English Trifle

This is a moment where my social experiment experiences trials before the grand release.

I looked in the fridge and I found that the Half and Half was used. In grandness of awe I wondered if there will be enough. I took the container, shook it, and questioned if I should risk the air spoiling the splendor taste only to measure what was left or do I leave it only to find out at the last minute if there is not enough. I then decided to leave it while I ponder the situation over the next two days.

I then reviewed the ingredients for the trifle. What was supposed to be raspberry jell-o turned out to be strawberry... strawberry! In hopes the sale is not over at the local grocery store, I plan my attack.

Will I make it or will the house hold of Dave devour everything before the moment?

Behind My Madness

Hello world! I'm Dave. As you can see, I am preparing to post instructions and a video on how to make, what I consider, to be the best dessert in the world. Before I continue with this, I wanted to introduce myself to you.

There is a purpose to my madness and it is called Public Relations. No, I'm not a professional... yet. I am currently working for a degree in PR and Advertising with an emphasis in Marketing. As I am learning the facts of PR, I found that the Social Network and Media changed the rules of business. **You just discovered that Sherlock?** Yes I did. It never occurred to me the power of the internet but I am still a skeptic. I still believe that face to face relationships in business matters more than a computer with fiber optic cables telling me something else.

With the backing of my education, I am taking the necessary steps to make this project work. Will it make or break me, I do not know. You, the world, will decide for me.

English Trifle - Get Set

Here are the ingredients you need to get. But don't get too excited on making it yet. You may have the ingredients but it's what you do with it that makes it count. Check back for a hand written summary of instructions. A video will soon follow after Thanksgiving to show how to put it together.

Ingredients

• 1 Large Box of Raspberry Jell-O
• 1 Large Box of Lime Jell-O
• 1 Large Box of Vanilla Pudding Jell-O Cook & Serve
• 1 Can of Pineapple Chunks in 100% Juice
• 1 Can of Mixed Fruit Light in Syrup
• 1 Pint of Heavy Whip Cream
• 2 ¾ Cup of Half & Half
• Bananas
• Red Cherries
• Chopped Walnuts
• Angle Flake Sweetened Coconut
• Pound Cake (Angle Food Cake, Sponge Cake, or any others work, but I prefer Pound Cake)
